There was a 25 year long battle by the Community Media Association for Community Radio to be authorized in the UK. In 2001 Government counsel started on new Communications enactment. June 2003 new Communications Act passed, including surprisingly procurement for “Group Radio”. In July 2004 Ofcom opens applications for the new five year “Group Radio” licenses and in October 2005 Oldham Community Radio recompensed a full time permit. One of 107 issued across the nation.
Oldham Community Radio began broadcasting on Saturday seventeenth March 2007.
