The Instituto Mexicano de la Radio (Mexican Radio Institute) was founded in 1983 as a public service government radio institution. It is a decentralized agency of the federal government made up of 17 radio stations,
seven of which are in Mexico City and ten throughout the rest of the country. It also has a National Newscast System that produces and broadcasts news and information programs.
